personality: Jade is quite tall for her age, with long, wild black hair, green eyes, and prominent buck teeth that she frequently displays in big, goofy smiles. Her build is delicate, but she's much, much stronger than she looks. She has long, slender fingers and talks with her hands a lot.

She grew up pretty much entirely alone on a volcanic island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Her only human parental figure, her grandfather, was killed when she was a toddler, and she was raised by Becquerel, or "Bec", a near-omnipotent, immortal dog-like beast and First Guardian of Earth. Bec does not speak, but seems to be fiercely protective and affectionate towards Jade. She speaks of how he would not let her go outside to watch thunderstorms, but would sometimes make a window for her to watch from the safety of her house. As Jade was entering the Medium, Bec prototyped himself as her sprite in order to save her from the meteor descending on her island. Unfortunately, since game enemies take on the characteristics of tier 1 prototypes, the imps, and more importantly, the big bad, Jack Noir, gained Bec's considerable powers as a result. Becsprite is unable to communicate with Jade, at least not in a way she can understand, so she chooses to tier 2 prototype him with her dead dream self (creating Jadesprite) in the hope that the newly prototyped sprite could use its power to help fight Jack.

When she prototyped Jadesprite, Jade expected to find in her a willing ally, just as strong and cheerful as Jade herself. Instead, she was met with a traumatized little girl who is unable to cope with the horrible things she has seen and experienced. Jadesprite simply refuses to suck it up and stop crying, and expresses terror at the very thought of confronting Jack. The knowledge that this weak, blubbering child is, in fact, a version of herself is extremely difficult for Jade to face. This is a part of herself that she strives to conceal even from her closest friends, and now it's on loud, sobbing display for the whole world to see. What's worse, she can't seem to make it stop. Jade prides herself on her ability to be reasonable at all times, but Jadesprite responds to everything she's told with more tears.

Growing up, Jade's only human company was her online friends--John, Dave, and Rose. Given that, she is surprisingly well-mannered and socially aware, though she can be extremely blunt when the situation calls for it. She reads other people extremely well, even those who are practiced at concealing their thoughts and feelings. She has, however, been known to allow such people--Dave, for one--to preserve their illusion of impermeability. She's quite concerned with helping others and making them feel comfortable--if they deserve it. She's certainly not one to suffer fools. She has little patience for jerks, and when she doesn't like someone, she's not afraid to say it. Her favorite people to be around are those who are intelligent and have a good sense of humor; John, Dave, and Rose all fit this description.

Jade acts pretty similarly around everyone regardless of how well she knows them; she's extremely open and genuine. To a stranger's eyes, she might seem rather silly. Her typed speech is peppered liberally with exclamation points and emoticons; she's enthusiastic about nearly everything and isn't afraid to show it. In person, this translates as a highly expressive face. However, her good friends would be able to tell you that she is, in fact, incredibly intelligent and insightful. Underneath her bubbly exterior lies a sharp, incisive mind. When she's around friends she is likely to tease them, but always gently and always with a great deal of affection. The only time she acts hostilely is when she is treated with hostility first, e.g. with Karkat in the earlier parts of their relationship. She puts up with his abuse for some time, responding only with minor insults and vocal expression of her dislike for him. It's only when he pushes her to her limit that she explodes--and at that point, no one would dispute that he deserves it.

Jade is genuinely self-confident and unselfconscious around others. It's not that she doesn't care what people think of her, so much as that she's positive they will not think poorly of her. They have no reason to, after all. If someone was to treat her poorly or express a negative opinion of her, it would be more likely for her to think less of them than to question her own worth or likeability. Basically, she knows that she is a great person and can't see why other people wouldn't think so too!

There's very little in her heart and mind that she would be afraid to display openly, particularly with close friends. Perhaps because she grew up without much influence from human society, she sees little reason she should be ashamed of her inner self. However, there is a part of herself that she would perhaps like to pretend does not exist--the little girl inside, the one that's scared and doesn't want to fight anymore. Her denial of this part of herself is not based on the fear that anyone would think less of her if they saw it; it is simply that she sees no use for it. Letting it out wouldn't get her anywhere she wants to go, she thinks, so why let it out? Being young, she doesn't understand that letting herself feel fear and anxiety is healthy and essential.

In short, Jade is a sweet, intelligent girl, helpful to others and remarkably well-adjusted for someone with her background.

abilities/powers: Jade is a god tier Witch of Space and therefore extremely powerful; when she reached god tier she inherited Jadesprite's, and therefore Bec's, powers as well. She has the power to make objects larger or smaller, including but not limited to objects as large as planets. She can also teleport and fling objects through space at extremely high velocities. Because she is god tier, she cannot die or be killed except under two specific circumstances: heroic and just. A heroic death would entail dying in support of a great cause (i.e. martyrdom), while a just death would require her to do something monstrous and be executed for it. If she receives a wound that would normally be fatal, she will die briefly before reviving, completely unharmed.

first person sample: here and here.

third person sample: Jade woke alone and cold on a metal slab with no memory of how she'd gotten there. She sat up slowly, looking down at what she was wearing: a thin paper gown. The chill of the metal she was sitting on penetrated it easily and seeped through her skin into her bones. The last thing she remembered was sending a message to her friends on the meteor. She'd been excited; looking forward to spending time with John and Davesprite in person and getting to know them better. It was going to be an adventure.

She had no idea where she was, no idea where her friends were, no idea if they were okay. A cold tendril of fear snaked up from her stomach and she quashed it mercilessly. She had no time for fear. It's a useless emotion anyway. Climbing off the slab, she felt something on her toe and knelt down to examine it. It was a tag, printed with her name and a time that held no meaning to her. It left her feeling uneasy, so she removed it and left it on the slab before finding the door and making her way upstairs.

She found her way out of the building and into a strange, empty city. She was used to being totally alone--she grew up on an isolated island with no human company, after all--but something about this emptiness unnerved her, seemed unnatural. She hated unnatural things. Come on, Jade, she thought to herself. There has to be someone here. Someone must have left you on that slab. You just have to find them and they'll help you. It'll be just fine! Feeling braver after her self-peptalk, Jade set out determinedly to do just that.
